Pressure Forming Thermoplastic ProcessThe Pressure Forming process utilizes vacuum and pressure to form heated thermoplastic sheets.  The sheet is heated to the correct forming temperature and is then transferred to the pressure forming mold. Any entrapped air between the hot plastic sheet and the mold is removed to create a vacuum.  At the same time, air pressure is applied to the non-mold side of the sheet.  This additional air pressure presses the sheet even tighter to the mold surface. After the sheet has cooled and been de-molded it is ready for any trimming and or secondary operations that are necessary to produce the final product.
Pressure Forming Benefits
The benefits of pressure forming are sharp molded in features that are very similar to injection molding, including tight corner radii, undercuts, textures, lettering and logos.
Temperature controlled aluminum molds are required for this process.  However, tooling costs are much lower and lead-times much faster than injection molding tools.
